On Friday, March 31, I participated in Mitre Corporation’s Young Women in Engineering event along with some other girls who attend GIRL and participate in the Pathways to Careers Program. I had a fantastic time learning about the different career fields in engineering, especially because there is a need for women in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Throughout the day, we listened to women talk about their careers and the road they took to get there. We learned about the different technologies needed to make a robot to go into buildings to see what’s on the inside before officials actually go in. We also went inside a room where we collaborated on ideas to a solution for a problem and presented it to the group. My favorite part of the day, however, was the flight simulator. I’m sure that was most students’ favorite too. I learned a lot that day and had a phenomenal time. I hope to see more GIRL members participate next year!
